Streaking Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel took care of business before the team’s core takes part in the 2019 PBA All-Star festivities this coming weekend, dismantling the already-eliminated Meralco Bolts 86-76, Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Kings extended their winning streak to 4 games and in the process locked-in on the 3rd seed by virtue of their 7-3 win-loss record. The win also made the team’s final game against NorthPort on April 3 no-bearing since they will still end up at No. 3 due to superior quotient over TNT and San Miguel even if they lose.
The winner of the Magnolia-NLEX match, also on April 3, gets the distinction of facing the Kings in a best-of-three series.
Despite the victory, Brgy. Ginebra coach Tim Cone aired his displeasure over the team’s performance in the first half.
“Just terrible in the first half. I was disappointed with how we started the game with our energy level and concentration. Our focus was just terrible. We made a big deal out of it at halftime,” said the league’s winning-est mentor.
The team’s twin towers led the way with Greg Slaughter pouring in 18 points while Japeth Aguilar added 12. Jeff Chan and Kevin Ferrer also had significant contributions with 11 points apiece. Scottie Thompson had 6 points but led the team in rebounds with 10.
