Brgy. Ginebra continued with its winning run in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup, stretching it to 4 via 101-93 romp over skidding Blackwater, Wednesday night at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
Justin Brownlee came through with another brilliant all-around performance as the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup Best Import finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists and 2 steals in 40 minutes of action to lead the Gin Kings to their 5th win in 7 starts and a share of 3rd place with idle Meralco.
Brgy. Ginebra led by as much as 21 points but had to endure several Blackwater comeback attempts late in the payoff period to secure the victory.
“That was a battle both mentally and physically. We were making a lot of turnovers, granted they were changing (defense and lineups),” said Brgy. Ginebra coach Tim Cone.
“I thought coach Aris (Dimaunahan) did an incredible job of throwing us different types of defenses and different lineups,” he added.
LA Tenorio topped the scoring parade for the Gin Kings with 20 points to go along with 7 boards and 5 assists while Japeth Aguilar added 18 markers and 8 rebounds.
Stanley Pringle, Greg Slaughter and Scottie Thompson also had significant contributions with 16, 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Mac Belo paced the Elite with 19 points while rookie Ray Parks chipped in 14 in probably his last game for the team that took him 2nd overall in last year’s draft.
