Brgy. Ginebra forward Joe Devance tweeted his displeasure over Arwind Santos’ monkey gesture directed at TNT import Terrence Jones during Game 5 of the ongoing championship series between the KaTropa and the San Miguel Beermen in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“What Arwind did has nothing to do with mind games! It shows his level of education and class!!! Sad thing is theres a lot more that think that same way,” wrote the 37-year old Fil-Am.
Santos and Jones had their first moment during Game 4 of the Finals series after the former NBA player, who previously had run-ins with Chris Ross and Christian Standhardinger, let out a howl right smack on the face of the SMB veteran.
The incident apparently triggered something between the two which became evident the following game.
After Jones was called for a loose-ball foul on Standhardinger during the 1:05 mark of the 2nd quarter, Santos stood up from the bench and did a monkey gesture while the recently crowned Best Import was making his way to the other side of the court.
The 13-year PBA veteran, however, remained unapologetic and even defended his move claiming that it just part of the mind games between two teams locked in a heated Finals battle.
“Magso-sorry ako? Hindi, kasi depende yun sa kanya. Kung mapipikon siya, totoong monkey siya. Kung hindi ka mapipikon, hindi ka monkey. Kami, nang-aasar lang. Kami ngang magkakapatid nag-aasaran din kami.”
