Brgy. Ginebra, foiled in its PBA Governors’ Cup three-peat bid last season, starts a quest to reclaim the crown in facing Alaska at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Sunday.
The Kings and the Aces face off at 6:45 p.m. in a showdown also featuring a curious side battle between coach Tim Cone and former ward Jeff Cariaso.
The Aces, who dropped their conference first assignment versus the Columbian Dyip Friday, may be in for a tougher climb versus the Kings.
“We can only expect a well-oiled machine in Ginebra. They looked game ready versus the LG Sakers. They are passing the ball fluidly, moving with a purpose, and defending well together,” said Cariaso in the Kings’ fine showing versus the visiting Korean ball club in a tuneup Tuesday at the Big Dome.
“For us, we need to do a better job on the boards, defend as a team and lessen our turnovers,” Cariaso added.
The Aces struggled badly in their first game under Cariaso, absorbing a 110-117 defeat at the hands of the Dyip in a match where Alaska center Noy Baclao suffered a nasty fall.
