As Taal Volcano spewed ashes and gases, Barangay Ginebra had its own eruption, unleashing fireballs upon fireballs in a massive final-half offense to flatten Meralco, 92-84, Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Ginebra ran a superb play to end the first half with a three-point play from Justin Brownlee, and the Gin Kings returned from the halftime huddle ablaze, torching the Bolts for the crucial 2-1 upper hand in their PBA Governors Cup best-of-seven finale.
Fading away from a tight first-half battle and suffering a ghastly rout, the Bolts left the Big Dome also facing uncertainty on the status of Raymond Almazan.
The 6-foot-8 center was limited to six minutes of action in Game Three, leaving the floor not to return after hurting an ankle on an awkward fall from a offensive thrust.
Upon Almazan’s exit, the Bolts actually even wiped out an 11-point deficit only to fall way behind in the third, 58-78, from which they failed to recover.
And thus the Kings are back on the driver’s seat, with a chance to build a commanding 3-1 advantage in Game Four Friday also at the Big Dome.
