Greg Slaughter returned to the country without fanfare after an 8-month furlough in the US.
The 32-year old Fil-Am left the country shortly after Brgy. Ginebra reclaimed the Governors’ Cup crown and bade everybody farewell through a lengthy and emotional post on Instagram.
Slaughter apparently didn’t receive a formal offer from team management after his contract expired last January. In addition, there were reports that a deal was being worked out which would send him to NorthPort along with rookie Jerrick Balanza for Christian Standhardinger. He later claimed that he had no knowledge of the said trade.
It seemed as if he was intent on pursuing a basketball career in the US when he posted a photo of himself on Tuesday and wrote, “It’s good to be back home!”
Two days later, he posted another photo, this time with frontcourt bubby Japeth Aguilar and captioned it, “Good luck in the bubble, brother!”
“Thanks, brother. Hope to play with you soon,” replied Aguilar.
The 2019 Governor’s Cup Finals MVP then proceeded to the PBA bubble in Clark, Pampanga and arrived just in time for the Gin Kings’ game against the NLEX Road Warriors which is set on Sunday, October 11, 6:45pm at the Angeles University Foundation gym.
Slaughter, meanwhile, is being considered by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas for a spot in the Gilas Pilipinas squad which will see action in the FIBA Asia Cup qualifier on November.
