Helterbrand watches Brgy. Ginebra game, Caguioa hopes to return the favor

Former Brgy. Ginebra guard Jayjay Hetlerbrand was in attendance for the Gin Kings semifinals series opener against TNT KaTropa, Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 42-year old Fil-Am retired in 2017 and is currently making a basketball comeback in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) as a player for the Imus Bandera.

Bosom buddy Mark Caguioa appreciated the support of his long-time backcourt partner and hopes to return the favor by watching one of Helterbrand’s games.

“Oh, yes sure. Of course. I’m always there to support him. If he has any games coming up, I’ll be there to watch him,” said Caguioa.

The two formed Brgy. Ginebra’s ‘Fast and Furious’ tandem which gained prominence in 2004 when the duo, along with big man Eric Menk, powered the league’s most popular squad to back-to-back titles including the much-coveted Philippine Cup.

Unfortunately, the Gin Kings, collapsed in the final frame and allowed the KaTropa to take Game 1. Caguiao, however, didn’t disappoint as the 18-year PBA veteran provided quality minutes by scoring 7 points on 75% shooting from the field.

Despite playing in another league, Caguioa maintained that he will always be supportive of his buddy’s basketball career.

“He still looks good. Makikita mo naman sa katawan niya, hindi naman tumaba. And he can still play,” said the 2012 PBA Most Valuable Player.
