Jett Manuel has ended his PBA career after just one season.
The 26-year-old guard bid his team goodbye on Friday just as the Kings were about to start their preparations for the 2019 PBA season.
Manuel, the charismatic guard out of University of the Philippines, was part of the Ginebra team that won the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup but played only sparingly during his short stint in the league.
Manual was selected 12th overall by the Kings in the 2017 PBA Draft and was signed to a one-year contract.
“I was shocked to find out,” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone on learning of Manuel’s decision. “I’m saddened by it all. But it takes incredible character to walk away from the game to do something for your family.”

Grateful. To Ginebra. To UP. To Xavier. To my coaches. To my teammates. To my family. To the fans. • It was definitely short, but definitely sweet. Choosing to retire wasn’t easy but I’m excited for everything that lies ahead. • I’ll always be connected to the game of basketball, but in a different form this time. • #Gingineer #OnceAKingAlwaysAKing #NSD
