Justin Brownlee relieved to face Allen Durham-less Meralco in the Finals

Justin Brownlee is relieved that Brgy. Ginebra will take on an Allen Durham-less Meralco in the Finals of the 2021 PBA Governors’ Cup.

The Bolts, who lost all three previous Finals duels with the Gin Kings in the season-ending conference, will be parading a finesse-type of import in Tony Bishop this time around instead of the bull-strong Durham who is currently playing for Ryukyu Golden Kings in the Japan B.League.

While the 33-year old Brownlee has emerged as the winner in every match-up against Durham, he admitted that he always has a tough time against the former Bolts reinforcement.

“I need to be honest, yeah you could say that,” said a smiling Brownlee when asked about his thoughts on playing Meralco in the championship round without Durham.

“He’s a tough competitor, he always comes to play hard, and always produced for his team,” said the Gin Kings resident import who recently moved up to 6th place in the all-time scoring list for imports.

Despite his inability to lead the Bolts to the promised land, Durham has bagged all three Best Import awards against Brownlee who, on the other hand, already has 4 PBA titles tucked under his belt.

Still, Brownlee has a lot of respect for his compatriot.

“He’s really been the Best Import for three times and there’s a reason for that. He definitely earned it.”

With that match-up now in the past, at least for this conference, Brownlee is looking forward to taking on a different kind of ‘beast’ in Bishop.
