KJ McDaniels leads Governors’ Cup Best Import race, Justin Brownlee in second

TNT reinforcement KJ McDaniels emerged on top in the race for the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup Best Import award.

The former NBA player posted an average of 58.6 statistical points (SPs) on the strength of league-leading averages in scoring (35.1) and rejections (3.4) to go along with 13.5 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.4 steals per outing.

The KaTropa, however, failed to advance into the title series after the McDaniels-powered squad were outlasted by sister team Meralco in the semifinals, 3-2.

Coming in a close second is Brgy. Ginebra resident import Justin Brownlee. The 31-year old, 3-time PBA champion submitted an average of 57.2 SPs after putting up 29.0 points, 13.6 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.4 blocks per contest.

Allen Durham, the Best Import during the 2016 and 2017 editions of the season-ending conference, is running third with an average of 56.9 SPs. The Bolts reinforcement averaged 30.9 points, 15.2 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game.

The Gin Kings and the Bolts will meet in the championship round for the third time in the last four seasons with this year’s best-of-seven affair slated to start on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
