Christian Standhardinger has been missing Brgy. Ginebra’s training sessions in Batangas City due to a lingering injury.
Gin Kings chief playmaker LA Tenorio disclosed the current condition of the crowd darling’s new acquisition on Friday.
“For now he’s still injured. He’s still recovering from an injury. So we want to make sure that before the opening he’s 100 percent already,” said Tenorio in the program The Game.
“That’s why we’re not forcing him to practice right away,” he added.
The 36-year old Batangueño, however, did not divulge the injury that has been bothering the 6-foot-8 Fil-German who was acquired by the Philippine Cup defending champions last March from the NorthPort Batang Pier in exchange for Greg Slaughter.
Despite not being able to take part in the scrimmages, Standhardinger is already familiar with Tim Cone’s system having played for the league’s winningest mentor during the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
“But knowing Christian, I see him as a smart player. He knows the game. And naging teammate na namin siya sa SEA Games. So basically he knows a little bit about coach Tim Cone’s system,” said Tenorio.
“Hopefully makabalik na siya soon para ma-integrate na namin yung kailangan niyang malaman sa team, yung system, and the chemistry that we have to build,” added the 4-time PBA Finals MVP.
