Maurice Shaw finally got his long-awaited release papers from NLEX.
The 36-year old Fil-Am, who was drafted 2nd overall by Blackwater in 2019 but ended up with the Road Warriors after being part of a complicated three-team deal along with TNT on March of 2021, is reportedly headed to Brgy. Ginebra’s 3×3 team.
NLEX team manager Ronald Dulatre confirmed during an interview with SPIN.ph that the MVP-owned franchise has completed a buyout of Shaw’s contract. Terms of the deal, however, were not disclosed although sources claimed that the amount agreed upon was 50% of Shaw’s original contract which is due to lapse on March of 2023.
Sources added that the 6-foot-9 former Harlem Globetrotter will start off with the Gin Kings’ 3×3 team and eventually move up to 5×5 depending on his performance.
Since moving over to the Road Warriors, Shaw never had a chance to showcase his abilities and was actually denied access to the team’s facilities.
He hasn’t signed a contract yet but it’s only due to the fact the Brgy. Ginebra’s office is closed owing to the NCR’s Alert Level 3 status. Sources, however, claimed that the transfer is already a done deal and the signing would just be a formality.
