Sean Anthony limped to their bench after hurting his groin, but Robert Bolick gave the NorthPort Batang Pier a big relief in delivering big time in the clutch.
Bolick came through with 24 points, including a huge three-pointer inside the final minute as the Batang Pier withstood the Barangay Ginebra Kings, 100-97, to nail an automatic quarterfinals entry in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Wednesday night.
Anthony made 19 points before his exit while Moala Tautuaa and Bradwyn Guinto contributed 17 and 14, respectively, as the Batang Pier completed their needed three-game closing run to join Phoenix Pulse, Rain or Shine, Ginebra, TNT KaTropa, San Miguel Beer and Magnolia in an outright playoff passage.
NLEX, Alaska Milk and Columbian ended up tied at No. 8 on their identical 4-7 win-loss cards. With the higher quotients, the Road Warriors and the Aces dispute the last quarterfinal berth on a knockout setto at 7 p.m. tomorrow over at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.
“We did well in our last three games, at blessing na rin sa team na nakapasok kami sa quarters outright. Talo kami six in a row, buti nakabalik,” said NorthPort coach Pido Jarencio.
