For the first time in a long while, Game 1 of a PBA championship game will be played on a Tuesday.
This development came after the league moved the series opener of the 2019 Governors’ Cup Finals between Brgy. Ginebra and Meralco to Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from the original date of Wednesday, January 8.
As it turned out, team officials and coaches of both teams have requested the adjustment due to the small period of time between the first two games of the best-of-seven affair, especially since Game 2 is going to be played in far off Lucena City.
Aside from the date of Game 1, the venue plus all the details of the other Finals matches remain the same.
“Both teams pointed out yung small amount of time para magpahinga at mag-prepare for Game 2 which is a Friday kung ang start ng finals is Wednesday,” explained league commissioner Willie Marcial.
“And yung sa Lucena hindi na rin namin mai-move dahil matagal ng kasado yan. Ngayon kung mag-a-adjust kami pababa, magugulo yung buong schedule ng finals. Kaya ang pinaka-feasible talaga is to adjust pataas, and that is to play Game 1 on a Tuesday,” he added.
