TNT gunner Roger Pogoy has been ruled out of the Gilas Pilipinas Men’s team which will see action in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games set in the country from November 30 to December 11 due to a bulging disc.
The 27-year old Cebuano sustained the injury during the team’s quarterfinal match against the Magnolia Hotshots.
KaTropa and Gilas team manager Gabby Cui disclosed through a text message Wednesday morning that the back njury, which causes nerve irritation in the lumbosacral joint, will force Pogoy to miss the biennial meet as doctors have advised complete rest for at least a week before starting rehab.
“He won’t be able to play for Gilas. Coach Tim (Cone) will choose from the pool on who will replace,” wrote Cui.
With Pogoy officially out, Cone can opt to replace him with any of the three remaining members of the national team training pool – namely Greg Slaughter, Arthur Dela Cruz and Scottie Thompson.
The Brgy. Ginebra trio were earlier dropped from the Final 12 as only Japeth Aguilar, Stanley Pringle and LA Tenorio made the cut.
The other members of the national team are June Mar Fajardo, Chris Ross and Marcio Lassiter from San Miguel, Troy Rosario from TNT, NorthPort’s Christian Standhardinger, Alaska’s Vic Manuel, Phoenix Pulse’s Matthew Wright and NLEX’ Keifer Ravena.
