Rain or Shine disappointed Barangay Ginebra anew on a road showdown, banking on key plays by Gabe Norwood at endgame to eke out an 83-80 win in their PBA Philippine Cup Petron Blaze out-of-town tussle at the Calasiao Sports Center here Saturday.
Hardly a factor early on, Norwood came through with six points, one huge block and an equally important defensive rebound in the clutch as the Elasto Painters duplicated their win over the Gin Kings in Lucena last conference.
The Elasto Painters pulled a solid job together majority of the way as they frustrated the Kings for a 2-0 start in PBA Season 44.
The Kings, meanwhile, dropped to 1-2, with an earlier loss to the San Miguel Beermen after a triumphant season start versus the TNT KaTropa Texters.
Ginebra coach Tim Cone was inconsolable after match, vehemently questioning what he felt a goal-tending violation by Gabe Norwood in a critical play at endgame.
With Ginebra down by three at 79-82 with time down to 43 seconds, LA Tenorio broke ROS’ inbounds and looked headed for a breakaway layup when his shot was foiled by Norwood.
