Brgy. Ginebra flexed its full might in the pivotal 3rd quarter and turned a close game into a lopsided affair to win by 22 points over Magnolia, 105-83, Saturday night in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Gin Kings outscored the defending champions 34-21 which turned a 1-point halftime lead into a 14-point cushion going into the final frame.
The 2017 Governors’ Cup titlists continued with the onslaught in the 4th period and extended the lead to 27, 101-74, after a Brownlee triple with the game clock down to 4:51.
“At halftime even though we are leading by one point, we told that if we continue to play like in the first half, we’re not going to beat this team,” said Brgy. Ginebra coach Tim Cone during the post-game presser.
Brownlee narrowly missed a triple-double as the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup best import awardee finished with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists to lead his team to back-to-back wins and a 3-2 record with still 6 games remaining in the team’s elimination round schedule.
Scottie Thompson and Japeth Aguilar contributed 14 markers apiece while Stanley Pringle and Arthur Dela Cruz added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Rome dela Rosa paced the Hotshots with 18 points while import Romeo Travis, who missed the team’s game against Blackwater due to ankle sprain, returned with 17 points and 17 boards.
