The ‘Three Muskteteers’ of Brgy. Ginebra is now a thing of the past.
This development came in the aftermath of Kevin Ferrer’s trade to the NorthPort Batang Pier together with Sol Mercado and Jervy Cruz for scoring machine Stanley Pringle.
Ferrer and Cruz will be reunited with University of Sto. Tomas coach Pido Jarencio while Mercado will mark his 3rd stint with the Mikee Romero-owned franchise.
Scottie Thompson and Aljon Mariano, Ferrer’s closest teammates having gone together on countless of trips around the country during breaks, admitted that were saddened upon learning of their pal’s departure from the team.
“Unang una, nasaktan kasi tagal na rin ng pinagsamahan namin. Almost four years. I think for me, hindi pa ako sanay especially kay Kevin. Sobrang close na kami. Masakit pero happy ako sa kanya kasi alam ko yung opportunity niya doon,” said Thompson.
Mariano, on the other hand, has been Ferrer’s teammate dating back to their collegiate years.
“Tagal ko na siya kasama, since college. Ilang years na kami magkakampi. Siyempre nalungkot ako kasi iba yung araw-araw mo kasama eh. Mababago yun kasi hindi na namin siya araw-araw makakasama. Makikita lang namin siya sa games,” said Mariano.
Gin Kings coach Tim Cone is well aware of the friendship of the three but sees the trade as a silver lining for all the parties involved.
“Kevin, Scottie, and Aljon are the ‘Three Musketeers’ of our team. Three of them are inseparable. We broke up the Three Musketeers. It was a tough, tough trade. But down the line, it will prove to be a good one for us,” said the American mentor.
