Tim Cone admits Brgy. Ginebra outplayed, outworked by ‘tough team’ Magnolia

Tim Cone admitted that Magnolia proved to be the ‘hungrier’ team during the first Manila Clasico of PBA Season 47.

While the Hotshots are in a precarious situation having lost 3 of their last 4 matches and are desperate for a ‘W’, Cone feels that the Gin Kings could’ve streched their winning run to three had they played with a sense of urgency.

“They just played harder than we did for 48 minutes. We tried to kind of turn it on towards the end or the middle part of the fourth quarter, and got back into the game with some nice shots, but we just didn’t play with a lot of focus or did we match their energy all-game long,” explained the former Hotshots mentor.

“And when it came down to the last two minutes, they were still playing harder and they were still playing with more energy than we were,” he added.

Cone stressed that Rome dela Rosa’s clutch triple which gave Magnolia a 5-point edge with 1:45 ticks on the game clock served as the dagger.

“We came down and rush the shot and didn’t get into the rim. So that’s the way it is,” said Cone on the Gin Kings’ play after dela Rosa’s trey.

Despite the disappointing loss, Cone remains upbeat on the team’s chances in the league’s most prestigious tournament.

“But this is not the end of all right here. Still early in the conference. We played a tough team tonight that was desperate, they’re the no. 1 seed the last conference, and they’re always all-Filipino finalist. So they’re really a tough team.”
