Brgy. Ginebra coach Tim Cone was impressed by LA Tenorio’s save during the closing seconds of the team’s game against TNT which prevented the KaTropa from having another shot at winning the hotly-contested match that ended with the Gin Kings on top, 96-93, Friday night in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
After KJ McDaniels missed the backend of two free throws which could’ve sent the game into an extra period, a battle for the rebound ensued between Japeth Aguilar and Troy Rosario with the former clearly tapping the ball out of bounds. Tenorio, however, quickly went for the ball and saved it towards a waiting Justin Brownlee who was immediately fouled by McDaniels.
The Brgy. Ginebra resident import calmly sank the two freebies for the insurance baskets which also served as the game’s final points.
Tenorio’s effort wasn’t lost on the team’s 61-year old mentor who heaped praises on the 14-year PBA veteran.
“Great save by LA and we’re able to make that two,” said Cone on the win-preserving play.
The victory over one of the tournament leaders was a certainly a welcome development after the crowd darlings suffered a 24-point beating at the hands of the Meralco Bolts just 5 days ago. The Gin Kings are now in 4th place (6-3) with 2 games to go in their eliminations round schedule.
The top 4 finishers will bring with them a twice-to-beat advantage going into the quarterfinals.
