Tim Cone says John Pinto will bring toughness, experience to Brgy. Ginera

Brgy. Ginebra will need all the backcourt help it can get after leading scorer Stanley Pringle was ruled out for the rest of the 2021 PBA Governors’ Cup.

The 34-year old Fil-Am recently underwent surgery on the meniscus of his left knee and will be unavailable for at least three months.

The Gin Kings, however, got a much needed boost after former Meralco guard and unrestricted free agent John Pinto agreed to a three-year deal with the defending champions.

The arrival of the former Arellano University standout couldn’t have come at a better time as Pringle’s temporary departure left Kent Salado as chief playmaker LA Tenorio’s only reliever.

Coach Tim Coach admitted that Pinto is definitely a major acquisition especially at this point in time.

“We wanted to provide depth to our guard position because of Stanley’s absence,” explained Cone. “We like him because he brings a lot of toughness and experience to the position.”

Pinto saw action in 2 games for the Bolts in the ongoing conference and averaged 9.0 points, 5.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steal. During the 2021 Philippine Cup, he submitted 19-game averages of 8.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.
