TNT Tropang Giga improved to 8 wins against a lone defeat after outlasting Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel, 88-67, in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup at the Don Honorio Ventura State University Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.
After scoring 36 points against NLEX Road Warriors on Friday, Mikey Williams continued his dominant performance by racking up 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting highlighted by 4 three-pointers to go along with 2 assists and 4 rebounds.
The 6-foot-2 Filipino-American guard helped the Tropang Giga claim its second consecutive win after losing to the San Miguel Beermen on Wednesday.
“Since day 1 naman, alam naman namin kung ano ang kaya niyang ibigay sa team. At the same time, sobrang maganda lang sa kaniya yung attitude niya, kung paano siya makipag-bonding sa amin. Sa practice, makikita mo talaga sa kaniya na kayang-kaya niya mag-contribute nang malaki.” Jayson Castro’s response when asked about Mikey Williams’ leadership.
“For me, parang hindi na namin siya tinuturing na rookie eh, kasi alam mo naman kung ano yung kaya niyang ibigay talaga sa team namin.” he added.
Castro finished the game with 14 points and 5 assists while Troy Rosario posted 14 points, 5 rebounds and 1 block. RR Pogoy added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals for TNT.
Brgy. Ginebra, on the other hand, dropped to 9th spot in the Philippine Cup rankings with 3 victories and 5 defeats.
The Gin Kings have now lost their last two matches.
Japeth Aguilar tallied 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocks in a losing effort while Christian Standhardinger racked up 14 points on 50% shooting from the field on top of 9 rebounds.
Scottie Thompson added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.
Brgy. Ginebra converted just a single three-pointer for the entire game while TNT nailed 8 baskets from beyond the arc.
