Brgy. Ginebra will be in for a tough battle in the championship round of the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup regardless of who among the two teams from the MVP group makes it to the next round.
Meralco and TNT are currently locked at 2-2 in their best-of-five semifinal duel with the winner-take-all match scheduled on Monday, December 23 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
For Gin Kings coach Tim Cone, the crowd darlings have no advantages against either team.
“If we play Meralco, certainly it won’t be an advantage. It’s a disadvantage because we play them twice and we beat them twice,” said Cone.
“They are going to be super hungry to play us,” he added.
The Bolts and the Gin Kings have clashed in the Finals during the 2016 and 2017 edition of the season-ending conference with the Justin Brownlee-powered squad prevailing both times.
The KaTropa, on the other hand, are certainly no pushovers as well given the fact that the team reached the Finals just last conference.
“Talk ‘N Text has been in the finals recently also so it’s not really that much of an advantage at this point,” said Cone.
If there’s one bonus that his team is indeed enjoying, it’s that they have the luxury of time to study and prepare for the upcoming match-up.
“You can be nice and relaxed while you watch it. I haven’t watched the games because one, I don’t like to do that because I want to narrow my focus on what we are doing and I don’t want to be thinking about the other teams. Two, especially now, we knew we will have a long break. Puwedeng maghabol,” explained the league’s winning-est bench tactician.
