NorthPort had 36 seconds to tie the game with a three-pointer, but Sean Anthony and Garvo Lanete misfired on their attempts as Batang Pier succumbed to Ginebra, 73-70, in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Justin Brownlee once again salvaged the Gin Kings from jaws of defeat, nailing the go-ahead triple and stripping the ball from Mo Tautuaa in the ensuing play, ensuring the Gin Kings would improve to a 2-1 win-loss record in the midseason conference.
He scattered 32 points, to go along with eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals.
But it was defense that allowed the Gin Kings to survive the game, according to head coach Tim Cone.
“I coached poorly, I thought it was a loss. We were turnover-prone tonight,” said Cone.
Stats spoke otherwise, though. Ginebra turned the ball over 16 times, while NorthPort committed 22 errors, which the Gin Kings converted to 20 points.
