There will be no Barangay Ginebra coronation nor Meralco spoiler Wednesday.
Game 6 of the Gin Kings-Bolts title clash was postponed due to a fire that hit the Smart Araneta Coliseum, also causing the cancellation of the 3×3 Second Conference grand finals set earlier in the day.
Though fire trucks had left the venue hours before the 6 p.m. tipoff, the PBA decided to postpone the game with the safety of all in mind.
“Ayaw nating ipagsapalaran ang kaligtasan ng mga fans, ng mga players at mga game staff. Better safe than sorry,” said PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial.
Game 6 is moved Friday over at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
“All Smart Araneta Coliseum Game 6 ticket holders can refund their ticket purchases at the Big Dome’s ticketing office,” the PBA said in a statement.
After back-to-back wins on Holy Wednesday and Easter Sunday, the Gin Kings were to take their first shot at wrapping up the Ginebra-Meralco IV before an expected sellout crowd at the Big Dome.
