Brgy. Ginebra reasserted its mastery over injury-plagued NorthPort by following up its 25-point Game 2 win with a 27-point Game 3 rout, 132-105, in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup semifinal round, Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The in-form Gin Kings, thus, took a 2-1 advantage in their best-of-five series and moved one win away from a return trip to the championship round of the season-ending conference.
Justin Brownlee fired a series-best 41 points to go along with 11 boards, 7 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks in 37 minutes of action while Japeth Aguilar finished with a double-double of 18 markers and 10 boards as the crowd darlings established control of the ballgame from the get-go and kept a safe distance from the Batang Pier all the way up to the final buzzer.
“I really didn’t expect that. I didn’t expect us to play so well. We came out and played really well in just about every phase of the game,” said a jubilant Brgy. Ginebra coach Tim Cone during the post-game presser.
“I thought we were in trouble early because Michael Qualls was out of this world. He was in another planet in the beginning of the basketball game. But we wear them down with our depth,” he added.
