Phoenix Pulse outscored Brgy. Ginebra in the pivotal 3rd period as the Fuel Masters overhauled a 14-point deficit and finished the quarter on top by 8 on its way to pulling off a 111-103 win over the Gin Kings in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Richard Howell and Matthew Wright conspired in a huge 3rd quarter uprising as the Louie Alas-mentored squad outscored their opponents by 20 points, 45-25, to grab control of the game and eventually pull off the victory which enabled them to tie their victims in the team standings with a similar 4-4 card.
It was a sorry defeat for the crowd darlings who were in total control of the game up until the 10-minute mark of the 3rd but succumbed to the hot-shooting of Wright coupled by the rugged defense put up by the Fuel Masters who survived the 4th quarter ejection of Alas due to successive technical fouls.
“I have to give credit to my coaching staff. I know na kaya ko sila kasama diyan at kaya hindi assistant coach ang title, associate coach si coach Topex at yung staff namin, credit to them plus yung leaders namin,” said Alas shortly after the match.
“Tingin ko nung pagkakataon na yon, kailangan iba muna ang mag-handle ng team to fire up the boys. There were instances na mali ang tawag pero sa parehong sides naman. In general, ok naman,” added the outspoken mentor.
