Brgy. Ginebra bounced back from a demoralizing loss to the Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters just 2 nights ago with a 118-106 win over Alaska in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Justin Brownlee and Stanley Pringle each had 27 points while Japeth Aguilar and Tenorio likewise finished in the 20s with 22 each as the Gin Kings picked up their 5th win to move above the .500 mark with a 5-4 record. The Aces, on the other hand, absorbed their 3rd straight defeat to fall further down the team standings at 4-5.
Unlike in their loss to Phoenix wherein only Brownlee carried the torch for the team in the payoff period, Pringle, Aguilar and Tenorio stood side by side with their prolific reinforcement and made key baskets in the crucial stages of the match to weather the last-ditch stand by the Aces and move into the top 5 going into the final stretch of the elimination round.
Brownlee added 14 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks in 44 minutes of play while Tenorio converted 6 of 8 attempts from 3-point country including 3 in the 2-minute mark of the 4th period which doused cold water on Alaska’s comeback attempts.
“Big difference from this game to last game especially second half,” said Gin Kings coach Tim Cone. “We played with a lot more fire. I thought last game, we kinda got loath into sleep that the game was easy. We had a halftime lead and we didn’t work for it.”
