Justin Brownlee sizzled for 47 points as Brgy. Ginebra finished off NLEX, 112-93, in Game 4 of the semifinal round of the 2021 PBA Governors’ Cup, Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
The 33-year old resident import of the Gin Kings drained 6-of-10 shots from long distance and 7-of-9 from the 15-foot line to go with 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocks in 44 minutes of action as the defending champions eliminated the second-seeded Road Warriors and moved 4 wins away from capturing their 4th Governors’ Cup title in 5 seasons.
“Life’s a lot easier when you have Justin Brownlee around,” said head coach Tim Cone during the post-game press conference. “What a phenomenal, phenomenal performance that was by Justin. I’m amazed by it.”
“We never would have thought it back then, when we had that four-game losing streak that we would reach the Finals. So yes, we are very proud of what these guys did,” he added
Veteran sharp-shooter Jeff Chan also had a big game as the 39-year lefty finished with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. LA Tenorio added 14 while Nards Pinto and Christian Standhardinger chipped in 12 and 10 markers, respectively.
Cameron Clark paced the Road Warriors with 34 points and 12 boards while Don Trollano added 15. Justin Chua finished with 10.
The Gin Kings will take on the winner of the Magnolia vs Meralco semis tussle in a best-of-seven championship series.
“Well, we have no choice in the matter. We don’t have any control over who we play. I think, obviously, both are gonna be incredibly exciting,” said Cone. “We’re still gonna have a great challenge in front of us, whoever we play.”
